PDF files
PDF files are Portable Document Format files often used for saving publications in a standard format that can be viewed on different devices independent of software or operating system. The file is created with Adobe Acrobat or an application with the Acrobat plugin such as Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop. The .PDF file may contain text, images, annotations, outlines, forms, and other data. The format is useful for preserving formatting and fonts across different devices and displaying its contents electronically the same way they will appear when printed.
Adobe Systems made the PDF format available for free in 1993 but it wasn't until 2008 that the format was officially released as an open standard.
